HI, THIS IS MATT

I specialize in teaching group and private one-on-one surf lessons. I've taught surfing up and down the California coast. I teach all levels and can tailor and customize a plan just for you. I want you to be a safe, knowledgeable and a skillful surfer. And I want you to have fun.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself:

EXPERIENCE:

I have more than 30 years surfing experience, and have taught surfing full time for over 15 years. I've surfed and taught all along the west coast - from Baja to Santa Barbara. I can tell you the best places to surf and the best times to surf - year round. I'm insured and am a Beach Permitted, CPR certified instructor.

EDUCATION:

Penn State University: Kinesiology / PE-Secondary Education.

 

​

CHILDHOOD AND BACKGROUND:

I grew up in Palos Verdes, CA and have been surfing since 1976. I began making, shaping, and designing surfboards while still in the 7th grade.

​

I was in the corporate world for about 10 years working for AC Nielsen Marketing Research. While there I was District Coordinator for Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and Kern Counties. My clients included Johnson & Johnson, Nestle, Philip Morris, Miller Beer, Revlon, Kraft Foods and other Fortune 500 companies.

Many of my family members were teachers and administrators for the Los Angeles Unified School District. The passion for teaching runs in my family

​

I decided to leave the corporate world and follow my passion - teaching others to surf. I have been teaching surfing full time since 1999. It is my life mission and I love it.

I have been featured on local television and in a number of publications. The LA Times has called me “the coolest guy ever.”

LOCATIONS

I provide year-round instruction on most of the local beaches – Malibu, Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, Venice Beach, Marina Del Rey and more by special arrangement.

OUR GOAL

My goal is to teach you surfing and stand up paddle boarding safely and properly, and I want you to have fun as you learn. No one cares more about teaching you or your group than I do.
